GOP In A Fighting Mood

This weeks The City Paper from Nashville features one of my illustrations on the cover. The fine folks at The City Paper called me up looking for a boxing republican elephant for their cover story about the Republican Primaries in Tennessee. I did some sketches of a victorious elephant and this mean one with his dukes up. I'm glad this is the one they chose. Tennessee might be a red state but it looks like they've going to have their work cut out for them in the coming months.

Drag Strip Courage And Compacts

Monday I asked the Toronto Roller Girls if they needed any poster art for October. Turned out they needed a poster for Wednesday so I got my act together and "whipped" this poster together on Tuesday. I though I would show the contrast of the tough side of the derby girls with the dainty which I think really works here. It cracks me up when you go see the derby and they're dancing while waiting for the whistle to blow. Maybe Roller Disco will be the next big thing for those of you on eight wheels. If anyone needs a roller disco poster done please call me.

New Media = New Illustrations

I grew up on Chuck Jones cartoons and spent a lot of time drawing my own comics when I was a kid. It feels like it's time to dust off the old crow quills, brushes and ink bottles to see what I can do with them. The end result has been these ink drawings that have been digitally colored, 20th Century cartooning meets 21st Century Vector graphics.

Trix - Fruit-Flavored Corn Cereal

Just in time for Easter, here's the Trix Rabbit. As part of series of mock Breakfast Cereal illustrations I'm working on I decided to try something entirely new for Trix. Rather than the traditional sugar craved maniacal bunny I went with a smooth ukulele strumming rabbit in bow tie, wingtips and mask.

Gold Card Carnival

If you're in a casino in British Columbia before June 13th check out my Gold Card Carnival posters. I did two posters featuring a Strongman, Acrobats and a ton of slot machines. The posters have been cut up into smaller ads all over the BC Gold website but you'll have to go to the casinos to see the whole piece. I'll post the art when I can but until then here's the original Strongman sketch. I kind of like this guy!

Encore à la Maison

What was originally intended to be a contribution to four issues has now been extended. The Spring issue of Maisonneuve Magazine is in the works and will feature the teaming up of me, writer Dave Bidini and art directing genius Anna Minzhulina for the fifth time. I think everyone has outdone themselves this round and I'm especially proud of this painting. I wish I could post it now but I won't spoil the surprise. This is just a sliver of an early rough.

Fingers crossed that there's a round six!

Still Fighting The American Revolution

It's been 4 years years now and I'm still working with writer Thomas Fleming and creative director Scott Feaster on illustrating tales of the American Revolution for Boys' Life Magazine. The newest issue concludes a two part story about a young African American slave whose father was killed in the war and now finds himself having to overcome his fears to save General Washington from the sabre of General Tarleton.

Valentine's Day Cheesecake

Here's a little Valentine's Day treat that you won't find in print anywhere. I started this promotional piece a year ago but I ran out of time.
